Statistics an Numerical method

Numbers may describe what goes on in the world. But no matter how securely we nail a description down with numbers, we still have not explained what we have descirbed. Statistics do not show how anything works or fits together.

statistics are simply descriptions in numerical form. The form is economical because statistics describe a universe through manipulation of samples drawn from it.

statistics are useful because of the variety of ingenious operations that can be performed, some of which can be used to check on the significance of others.

The result, however, remains a description of some part of the world and not an explanation of it. Statistical operations cnanot bridge the gap that lies between description and explanation.
